During our first season, Agora Dance commissioned works from six different choreographers, engaged seven D.C. based professional dancers, presented work in Pennsylvania and Virginia, and brought contemporary dance into the community with free performances in the Capitol Hill neighborhood of Washington D.C. From grass, to sidewalks, to stages, we are thankful for the opportunities we’ve had to bring dance out into the world.
This year, we will premiere our first evening-length work, continue to engage D.C. and Philadelphia-based professional dancers, commission new choreographic works, bring performances back to the communities where we have already developed relationships, and collaborate with sound and stage designers to add new dimensions to our work.
We want to create a vibrant world, where walking home from work includes the possibility of catching a jumping, twirling duet to French pop music, or where seeing a wistful, evocative solo, can be followed by a conversation over cookies.
We need your help to make this world accessible. Two thirds of our performances last season were open to the public free of charge. To continue producing free and low-cost programming, we depend on your support. Your donation will allow us to compensate our dancers, sound and set designers, and theater production staff, and rent space to experiment and create.
